After going through the trials and tribulations of purchasing a new house, the idea of decorating it may be a bit intimidating. Before diving in and decorating the entire house at once, take it one room at a time and you'll feel less stressed. Make a plan for each room and when one room is completed, move on to the next one and before you know it, the entire house will be decorated.

1 Write down a plan for each room. Decide what look you want to create for each room and write down the elements that you think you'll need to create each look. If necessary, consult home design books and magazines. Think about color palettes, fabrics, furnishings and accessories.

2 Assign a rank of importance to each room. There are likely some rooms in your home that you likely want to have decorated as soon as you move in and others that can wait a while. For instance, the kitchen and living room may be of utmost importance to you, or the bathrooms and bedrooms. Tackling the rooms that are most important to you first will give you peace of mind and allow you to enjoy your new home.

3 Determine the necessities. If you're moving from one home to another, you will likely be able to use several of the items from your old home in your new home. Go through what you already own and decide what you can use. If this is your first home, you will probably need to go shopping for the materials. Even if it isn't your first home, you may want to add a few new touches to the home. Come up with a specific, or at least a vague list of things you need to serve as a reference point while you shop.

4 Jump into decorating after you've sorted through and collected all of your goods. Start by painting or wallpapering the walls.

5 Arrange the furnishings. Start with the largest pieces--a bed and dressers, for example--as they will become the focal pieces of the rooms they are in. Once you've established where you want to position the bigger pieces, bringing in the smaller items, such as chairs, bedside tables and bookshelves.
   
6 Tie the look of the room together with accessories. Hang the curtains, display pictures, stack books, set out vases and any other accessory that you think will complete the room. Even if you don't get every accessory that you want in the room, the major decorating will be complete; adding accents and personal touches down the road is easy to do.

Salt cedar was first introduced the US in 1870 from the Middle East. Ever since then it has been used for various uses, including decoration. By 1938, salt cedar has grown in places from Florida to California, and as far as Idaho. At this point, it is listed as an invasive species in Oklahoma. Some of salt cedar’s uses are windbreaks and shade, as well as reduce erosion along stream banks. Salt cedar can reach an average height of 12’ to 15’ in height. Its natural appearance is slender, gray-green branches and forms along dense thickets. It features scale-like leaves are gray-green in color, narrow and pointed, near 1/16” in length, and may overlap along the stems. Salt cedars usually grow around mid-spring to fall.

Salt cedar is best described as an appealing evergreen shrub that can reach a height of fifty feet. The salt cedar is an invasive shrub and as such may form dense thickets of vegetation when growing near waterways. Its leaves have a resemblance to those of juniper leaves, in the sense that they have are scale-like and overlaps each other along the stem in gray-green color.The stems of salt cedar are slender and bear the color of light red or orange. Its flowers’ colors can range between pale pink to white. It forms dense masses of 2 inch long spikes all the way to the branch tips. Salt cedar also have dense plumes of flowers which bloom around early spring to late fall, producing on average 600,000 seeds annually.  And speaking of seeds, salt cedar reproduces mainly by root and seeds, which are spread via water and air. The most suitable type of soil for its growth is riparian areas however it can also flourish among drier soils.

You can find salt cedar mainly along streams, waterways, bottom lands, banks and drainage washes of natural or artificial water bodies. It can also thrive in moist rangelands and pastures as well as any area of land where its seedlings will not be exposed to saturated soil. Salt cedar has also been found in major areas around western Montana, areas which are not typically riparian in nature.Salt cedar can greatly complement a beautiful display of fresh or dried flowers. For example, preserved salt cedar can be used to add height and visual dimension to any decoration or project.

Dried salt cedar can also be presented alone as a bunch in a vase or basket for a modern accent to your room or office. Salt cedar’s naturally straight colored branches produce a unique accent to any interior decoration or flower arrangement.

Tips to Brick an Interior Wall

You don't have to settle for boring wallpaper or paint. Instead, cover a wall with brick. Hanging brick might sound difficult, but products like brick tile and brick veneer make it easy to apply a treatment that resembles bricks.

1. Create a guide on your wall with chalk to indicate where every second or third row of brick should start. This will keep your tiles even and level. Measure 2-1/4 inch for each row, adding 3/8 inch for the grout. Do this every second or third row. Mark the lines on the wall with a pencil.

2. Apply thin set to the wall with a notch trowel. Work in 4- to 6-foot sections at one time so the thin set won't dry too quickly. Choose thin set that is the consistency of toothpaste. A runny mixture will cause the tiles to slip.

3. Cut tile pieces for the edges using a tile cutter. Simple, manual tile cutters are available at most home improvement stores. If you are working with a large area and will be making lots of cuts, rent a wet saw. Check the first course of brick with a level.

4. Set the second course of bricks using the same method used to apply the first. Offset the bricks so that the midpoint of each brick lines up with the seam of the bricks above it. Use spacers to keep the bricks evenly spaced, leaving 3/8 of an inch for grout. Continue this process until your wall is completely covered. Allow the thin set to dry overnight.

5. Fill the grout lines with sanded tile grout. Choose a color of grout that closely resembles mortar. Work the grout between the bricks with a pointed trowel. This will reduce the amount of grout that you will need to clean off of the face of each brick.

6. Clean the grout from the surface of the tiles with a sponge and water. Wipe away all grout from the bricks. Clean the sponge and water often. Allow the grout to dry completely.

We FINALLY found a Bedroom Set we love after going to EVERY Furniture store in Columbia!!!! I was beginning to feel like we would never find anything we liked!!!!!!!!!

We found it at Haverty's. We should have gone there first instead of last! The bedroom set is called "Ashebrooke". It is just a simple, classic looking set which is exactly what we wanted.It is very similiar to a set from Pottery Barn that I have always loved, but the price tag was much better! :) We got everything you see in the photo plus another nightstand.

Because this set is in such high demand, we can't have it delivered until February 17th....but trust me, it is so worth the wait!!!!
